Free Agency
All negotiations take place with the Player Rep. All free agents will be listed by season's end and will stay for the duration of the year. Negotiations can take place at any time for any given free agent. The player's negotiations may have demands, and may agree to accept less money for a better opportunity or a better fit with another club.
For UFAs, write-ups help with sign the player . Do a good job of convincing this guy to sign with you and you could get a) a guy who would have otherwise signed elsewhere, and/or b) a discount. But be real about it. And remember there are 29 other teams competing with you for these Free Agents.
What you can offer Free Agents:
NTC
A "No Trade Clause", grants a client the power to make a decision on waiving the clause in order to have his/her contract dealt to another franchise. Player can be placed on waivers.
NMC
A "No Movement Clause", grants a client similar powers to the NTC, but also cannot be demoted or placed on waivers.
RFA means restricted Free Agent. It means that the team the player is on has rights to that player, and added security for their prospects. If you want to sign a RFA, you must submit an offer sheet to PR. He then forwards it to the team that owns the players rights, and they have the chance to match it and keep the player, or let him go and receive compensation.
For RFAs, write-ups don't mean as much, so you don't have to spend a lot of time on them, but can they ever hurt?

- Player suspensions or any other punishment I find it prudent to dish out.
